My mother in law has been battling stage 4 cancer and we have been frequent guests. The hospital is a bit outdated. The staff seem tired and overworked. However that does not hinder this being one of the best medical research hospitals in the world.

Be prepared for an Intake process that truly sucks. Between those who did not know how to process my insurance (NC State employee insurance, one of the largest policies in the country) and those who refused to help (Johns Hopkins' ironically named "Customer Service" department), I was left on my own and could only keep going from phone call to phone call (still doing that).

This is HORRIBLE service. Granted, my home hospital is UNC Cancer Hospital, which is a very good hospital. But don't let the fancy research at JH fool you. They are horrible to deal with, and their intake process seems designed to keep you out rather than let you in.

The young lady at the Intake Desk seemed helpful, just not trained on what to do. "Customer Service: (and I cannot believe they are really called that) was just blandly dismissive. "No, we are not going to help you or her because that is not what we do." I had to wonder, and I did ask, What DO you do? On a call back to Intake, I was hung up on THREE TIMES.

Anyway, not much about liver cancer is fun, and this is certainly no fun. My advice, unless you have to, don't go to Johns Hopkins. Go find a hospital with a better, more professional commitment to patient care. And remember their slogan: "Johns Hopkins, because we know you're desperate."

My mother went to the ED for persistent left arm pain not relieved by medication fearing it could be heart-related, and chose Hopkins for its reputation. She arrived before midnight, but after 8 hours, she's still waiting to be evaluated by a doctor. An EKG and blood work were done over 6 hours ago, yet she's had no updates and remains in the waiting area. This experience has been traumatizing, and I now understand why people leave AMA. Hopkins has certainly not lived up to its reputation.

Where to begin... I am going to make this as brief as possible. Starting off, I am only writing this to make women aware of going through johns hopkins for labor and delivery as well as having them as their OBGYN. I am not writing this to bring attention to the hospital itself because I know that it wouldn't make a difference and the person in charge of reading these comments will only comment to call patient relations which I know will get me nowhere. They do not care... they only care about taking insurance money but anyways, they told me when I was 25 weeks pregnant that my baby was going to have skeletal displaysia and will need surgery as soon as 3 months after birth. They also went along with saying she will most likely have multiple syndrome including carpenters and Phifers syndrome and also a chance of being a little person. I had 2 different doctors telling me I had an option to terminate and also adoption... as you can imagine, I was terrified for my baby but no matter what any of the doctors told me there was no way I was doing either of those options, I will love and care for my baby no matter what! They had my induction a couple weeks early and she litterally was perfect! They still had to send her to the NICU right away to monitor her but the whole time they were sticking my baby and making her so uncomfortable, it was horrible. They finally brought her to my room but they later on told me that the sonograms are good for everything but the shape of the head. I couldn't sue because of the paperwork they made me sign before giving birth, otherwise I would have. Not to mention my treatment there was very bad, let's just say it took them 3 days to give my baby her first bath and they never did her footprints. They also did not even tell me how to order food so I didn't even eat untill day 2 after giving birth! I had to remind them to give me my tylenol and as for lactation cream and they still were so late woth everything. I will never recommend this hospital to anyone for labor and delivery! They made most of my pregnancy a living nightmare and it was also the worst experience ever with labor and delivery. I am TRAUMATIZED by this hospital and even hearing the hospital name frightens me. I am now scared of hospitals and they did that to me. I thought with them being one of the most well known and established hospitals in the world I was in good hands but instead they ruined my pregnancy/birth experience with my daughter and scarred me for life.

My brother had emergency surgery and was transferred to John’s Hopkins twice ! At first he was in surgical ICU which I didn’t really care for. Two good nurses during his 6 day stay. Today he is at the Weinberg ICU and all I can say is WOW. The level of compassion and empathy everyone on this unit shows ! The front desk, the nurses, anesthesiologist, the doctors ! Very positive experience, their level bedside manner made us feel confident that he is in great hands.

I was admitted to the hospital Tuesday. I stayed in the emergency room because there were no beds available upstairs. I was not giving any breakfast but a tray of cold food. You constantly call for pain medicine and they make you wait extremely past the time that you’re supposed to have it. They moved me around the corner to a different part of the emergency room and claimed that the bed would be better. The room would be better, but that was Me The bed they told me it would inflate once I got in it. It did not. They shut the door and I called for a nurse five times to never come. I was so disappointed. I snatched my IV out and got the hell out of there before they kill me.

Not my choice to go here. I had a seizure at work. Left tied to a bed in my own urine for 10 hours. Worst hospital in Maryland. I can't believe how nasty you get treated there while laying in a hallway 10 hr tied to a bed like a animal. Going to a lawyer to see what the level of neglected car and abuse is and if they passed it. Don't send your dog there.
